How to estimate shingle bundles
- Enter roof area in square feet (plane area, not just footprint).
- Set waste from 0 to 40 percent for hips, valleys, and starter.
- Confirm bundles per square (default 3).
- Read squares with waste and bundles to buy. Ridge and starter often need extras.

How bundles are computed
squares = (area / 100) × (1 + waste/100). bundles = ceil(squares × bundlesPerSquare). Waste stays from 0 to 40. Bundles per square must be greater than 0 and at most 10.
Architectural vs 3-tab packs
Bundle weight and coverage vary by line. Always prefer the package square count. Steep roofs may need higher waste. Underlayment rolls are a separate takeoff.
Use cases
A 2000 sq ft roof at 10% waste and 3 bundles per square. Comparing 10% versus 15% waste. Not a sealed roofing plan.
