How pavers to buy are computed
area = length × width. face = paverLength × paverWidth. raw = area / face. buy = ceil(raw × (1 + waste/100)). Joint width is not subtracted. If joints matter, shrink the effective face yourself.
Patterns, sand, and base
Running bond wastes less than herringbone on average. Polymeric sand bags follow joint length, not this face math. Compaction of asphalt nearby is on asphalt.
Use cases
A 20 by 12 patio with 8 by 4 in pavers typed in feet. Comparing 10% versus 15% waste. Not a stamped patio plan.
