What C1V1 = C2V2 is
Amount of solute is concentration times volume. If you mix stock into a larger volume of solvent, C1 V1 equals C2 V2 when units match. The default C1 = 10, V1 = 1, C2 = 1 solves V2 = 10.
Stock, aliquot, and final volume
C1 is the bottle you start from. V1 is how much of that bottle you take. C2 is the weaker mixture. V2 is the flask total after you add diluent. Density of a pure sample without dilution is density.
