What C1V1 = C2V2 is

Amount of solute is concentration times volume. If you mix stock into a larger volume of solvent, C1 V1 equals C2 V2 when units match. The default C1 = 10, V1 = 1, C2 = 1 solves V2 = 10.

Stock, aliquot, and final volume

C1 is the bottle you start from. V1 is how much of that bottle you take. C2 is the weaker mixture. V2 is the flask total after you add diluent. Density of a pure sample without dilution is density.

Why is V2 blank by default?
So the page can solve the final volume. 10 times 1 equals 1 times V2, so V2 is 10.
Can I mix mg/mL with percent?
No. C1 and C2 must share one concentration unit. Convert first.
Is this a serial dilution?
No. It is one step. Repeat the arithmetic yourself for a dilution series.
Does the page add the diluent volume?
V2 is the final mixture volume. Diluent volume is V2 minus V1 if volumes add that way. Confirm for your solvent.
Can I treat this as an SOP?
