What this shoe size converter does
Shoe sizes are not a single SI length. This page maps adult sizes through last length (the mold that shapes the shoe). Mondopoint is that length in millimeters. EU sizes use the Paris point, 2/3 cm per size. UK sizes use the barleycorn, 1/3 inch, with the offset this engine documents in code. US men is modeled as UK + 1. US women is modeled as US men + 1.5. The default 9 is a US men 9, which is not a US women 9.
Ordinary length in inches and centimeters is length. Stature in feet and inches is height. Neither replaces a Brannock device or a brand chart.
Last-length model
EU last mm = EU × (20/3). UK last inches = (UK + 25) / 3. US men last inches = (US men + 24) / 3. US women last inches = (US women + 22.5) / 3. Mondopoint is last mm. These identities make US men = UK + 1 and US women = US men + 1.5. Kids, toddler, and Japanese scales are not listed.
Why brands disagree
Two EU 42 shoes can differ by several millimeters of last and by width. Athletic lasts differ from dress lasts. This converter ignores width (D, EE, EEE) and ignores manufacturer vanity sizing. Mondopoint is the most literal of the five because it is millimeters of last, still not your foot length plus toe allowance unless you already included that in the number.
