How to convert feet into yards

What feet to yards does
This length spoke starts at feet and targets yards. By definition 1 yd = 3 ft, so the conversion is exact in both customary units. The international foot is 0.3048 m, so 1 yd = 0.9144 m. The US survey foot (1200/3937 m) is not on this engine.

Feet, yards, and the international foot
yards = feet / 3. feet = yards × 3. In SI, multiply feet by 0.3048 to reach meters, then divide by 0.9144 to reach yards, which returns the same third. A statute mile is 1760 yd. A nautical mile is 1852 m, not a whole number of yards.
Fabric, field, and survey
Cloth and American football still talk in yards. Construction drawings often stay in feet and inches. This page will not split a leftover foot into inches unless you change To to Inches. Survey plats that still cite the US survey foot should not use 0.3048 m here.
When to convert feet to yards here
Turn a 27 ft room into 9 yd, convert a fabric cut, or check a run of fencing already measured in feet. Keep person height on the height converter when you have feet plus leftover inches as two fields.
