What inches to feet does
This spoke locks the length engine on inches to feet. The international yard and pound agreement sets 1 in = 0.0254 m, so 1 ft = 12 × 0.0254 = 0.3048 m. Twelve inches are one foot with no leftover rounding in the ratio. Survey feet are not listed. Nautical miles use 1852 m, so they do not divide into 6080 international feet here.
The same table powers inches to cm and the length converter. Feet and inches as a pair of fields live on the height converter.
Inch and foot factors
feet = inches / 12. inches = feet × 12. meters = inches × 0.0254. centimeters = inches × 2.54. Swap exchanges From and To. IEEE floating point may print a long decimal for values that are not whole inches, but the 12 and 0.0254 factors themselves are exact in the engine.
Foot, yard, and nautical mile
Lumber and room heights still quote feet and leftover inches. This page returns a decimal foot (18 in = 1.5 ft), not a feet-and-inches pair. Yards are three feet. Statute miles are 5280 feet. A nautical mile is 1852 m, about 6076.12 international feet, and sits on the same list as Nautical miles.
When to convert inches to feet here
Turn a 60 inch TV spec into 5 feet, check a 96 inch curtain as 8 feet, or swap to meters when a drawing is metric. Use height when you type 5 feet 7 inches as two fields.
What this page does not do
It does not split a decimal foot into leftover inches. It does not use the US survey foot. It does not convert area. Input stays in this tab.
