How to calculate a tip
- Enter the pre-tax bill, tip percent, and party size.
- Optional: tax percent, and whether tip is on the bill or on bill plus tax.
- Read tip, tax, total, and per person. Round-up raises each share to the next cent.
- This is not a local tax table or etiquette advice.

Tip and split
Tip is bill times percent over 100. Total is bill plus tip. Per person is total divided by the number of people, with no extra rounding rule. This is the same percent-increase arithmetic as the percentage calculator, plus a split.
Tax and service charges
If tax is already in the bill, you are tipping on tax unless you subtract it first. Some restaurants add a service charge; this page does not detect that. It does not suggest a 'correct' percent.
Not etiquette advice
Customary percents differ by country and by counter vs table service. Enter the percent you intend. Figures stay in this tab.
