Electricity Cost Calculator

Cost equals kilowatt-hours times the rate you type. If kWh is blank, energy is watts times hours times days over 1000. This is not a utility bill.

How to estimate appliance electricity cost

  1. Type your price per kilowatt-hour. The page does not load a utility tariff.
  2. Either enter kWh directly, or leave kWh blank and enter watts, hours, and days.
  3. Read energy in kWh and cost at that rate.
  4. Current from watts and volts is a different job on watts to amps. Nothing is uploaded.

Appliance energy cost

kWh times a typed rate

Kilowatt-hour1000 watt-hours
Energy from loadwatts × hours × days / 1000
CostkWh × price per kWh
Rate sourceThe number you type. Not a billed tariff.
Typed kWhWins over watts when kWh is greater than 0
Not a billNo fees, taxes, or time-of-use periods

How kWh and cost are computed

If you enter a kWh value greater than 0, that energy is used. Otherwise kWh is watts times hours times days divided by 1000. Cost is kWh times the rate. Days default to 1 when blank.

Watt, kilowatt-hour, and rate

A watt is a joule per second. A kilowatt-hour is energy. The rate is currency per kWh. For current from power and voltage, open watts to amps. Unit swaps for joules and kWh belong on the energy converter.

Not a utility bill

Real bills add delivery charges, taxes, and sometimes time-of-use prices. This page multiplies energy by one rate you typed. Compare a drive spend on fuel cost. Transfer time at a typed rate is download time.

Use cases

A lamp at 100 W for 8 hours, a space heater nameplate, or a meter reading you already have in kWh. Standby draw and duty cycle are not inferred.

Limits

Rate cannot be negative. If kWh is empty, watts and hours must be greater than 0. Informational only. CZNull does not receive the numbers.

Electricity cost questions

Does this page upload my numbers?
No. The formula runs in the page you opened. CZNull does not receive the values.
Is this my electric bill?
No. It is kWh times one rate you typed. Bills add other charges.
When do watts and hours apply?
When kWh is blank. Then energy is watts × hours × days / 1000.
What if I fill kWh and watts?
A kWh value greater than 0 is used. Watts are ignored in that case.
Where do I convert watts to amps?
Use the watts to amps calculator with voltage. This page does not solve current.
Can I treat the result as official?
No. Metered kWh and tariff rules differ. Use the page to check the arithmetic.
